Lower Belford House | New Freugh Park
A very exciting residential project for ELK Designs. This amazing residence is perched on the top of a hill giving 180 degree views over the Hunter River and surrounding farmland to the distant mountain ranges.
The design and materiality is heavily influenced by the rural context of the region allowing the house to sit comfortably as it naturally follows the contours of the site.
Referencing the farm shed vernacular, the natural materials, roof forms and steel work give a nod to the old milking sheds of the dairy and the former homestead once on the site.
A rammed earth spine connects the building to the site and creates a sense of anticipation on arrival and a tactile experience as you pass through the house. A pavilion style design separates the private areas from semi private, each with its own unique experience of the surrounding beauty.
Construction has begun! Retaining wall and rammed earth footings have been poured, the slab for the main living areas has been poured and electrical conduits and sewer pipes have also been layed. Construction of the rammed earth wall will begin in the month of June also.
A fantastic project with a great design for wonderful clients.
